Bettie Nadine "Dean" Assid a 1948 Gary High School Graduate

Waynesboro, Va. - Bettie Nadine "Dean" Assid, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away, at her home, on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Born December 16, 1930, in Thorpe, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Perry Henry and Grace (Bales) Mosley.  A graduate of Gary High School, in Gary, W.Va.  Dean worked for more than twenty years for D. Beverly J. Loesch. She spent eight years as a medical transcriptionist for Waynesboro Community Hospital before retiring.            Dean enjoyed cooking, caring for her family and especially bowling in the GE Couples Bowling League.     She was also a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.         In addition to her parents, Dean was preceded in deathby an infant brother, Dennis Mosley.   She is survived by her devoted husband, Ronnie; three daughters, Drema Poole of Parksley, Va., Rhonda McInnis of Waynesboro and Pamele Coyer and her husband Neal of Largo, Fl.; three grandchildren, Wendy Sundeen and her husband Steve, Andy Poole and his wife Elizabeth and Ryan McInnis; two great-grandchildren, Micah and Calep Poole; a half sister, Gay Ann Rankin.         Services and burial will be private. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, 717 South Marshall St., Suite 105B, inston Salem, NC 27101. Any memories of "Dean" may be shared with Ron Assid, 35 Grandview Manor Ct. Apt 208, Waynesboro, Va. 22980. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes and Crematory 618 West Main St. Waynesboro, Va. 

    

Eva Sue Rash a 1968 Gary High School Graduate

Anawalt, W.Va. - Eva Sue Rash, age 59, of Anawalt, W.Va., passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, May 18, 2009 at Bluefield Regional Medical center following a long battle with cancer.                Born on November 11, 1949 in Anawalt, she was a daughter of the late Flay and Helen Day Rhodes.                    She had been a lifelong resident of Anawalt and was of the Baptist faith.   She was a graduate of Gary High School and received a degree in interior decorating.  She formerly worked for Sears and Stone and Thomas as an interior decorator. God needed a mayor so she currently was serving her tenth year as mayor of Anawalt and was also a municipal judge for War.   Eva has spent her life helping people.                                                       In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James H. Woolridge.                                        Survivors include her husband, Fred Rash of the home; two sons, Robert Rash of Anawalt, and Scott Rash and special friend Jennifer of Rock Hill, S.C.; five grandchildren; five brothers, Bob Woolridge and wife Shelby of Pageton, Bill Woolridge and wife Agnes of Bassett, Va., JD Rhodes of Green Valley, Bobby Rhodes of Michigan, and Paul Rhodes of Michigan; one sister, Virginia Rhodes of Va.; and numerous neices and nephews.                 Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Long Point Missionary Baptist Church at Spencer`s Curve in Anawalt with the Rev. Donnie Farmer officiating.          Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. where her past and present emplyees will serve as pallbearers.   Friends may call on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Long Point Missionary Baptist Church in Anawalt.    Online condolences may be left by visiting www.cravens-shires.com          Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the Rash family.

Thomas Carson Mayhew formerly of Elbert, a 1946 Gary High School Graduate

Morristown, Tn. - Thomas Carson Mayhew, 81, of Morristown, Tn., died at his home on Thursday, May 21, 2009.  Thomas Mayhew was born  April 13, 1928 in Thorpe, Wv., the son of  Katherine and Robert Mayhew.   For much of his life he lived in Gary, Wv.,  He retired from  United States Steel after thirty years of service.    He was a veteran  of World War ll in the U. S. Air Force.     he was a member of  St. Patricks Catholic Church in Morristown.    Survivors include his wife, Maggie Pirslin Mayhew, of Morristown; a son , Randy Mayhew and wife Sandy, of Hurricane, Wv., a daughter, Dr, Susan Mayhew, of Vansant, Va.; three grandchildren, Hope Walker, Brian and Benjamin Mayhew; four great-granchildren.           Visitation will be May 23 at Mayes Mortuary in Morristown, Tn.  Burial services will be held on Sunday, May 24 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Bluewell, Wv.   Arrangements by Mayes Family Services of Morristown, Tn.    To leave personal condolences online visit  www.legacy.com
