Robert Stephen Sarubbi formerly of Gary Palestine, Texas - Candles have been lit for the man we all know as Bob. Robert Stephen Sarubbi, 73, was born Dec.18, 1935 in Brooklyn, N.Y., proudly of Italian decent. Bob was fater, husband and friend. He left us very quickly the evening of Nov. 23, 2009, close to his home in Palestine, Texas. Raised in West Virginia, Bob`s life has been a series of ham radio conversations from New York to Texas. As an amateur radio operator (ham), most of his life, he has touched on many people with his voice. Always ready to lend a hand to someone in need and never meeting a strangerwas always something he prided himself in. Not only was Bob`s life consumed in radio, but also his love for music. He played numerous instrumets, including his beloved banjo and mandolin. His music expressed his love for the mountains and the people of his childhood home in West Virginia. As an aircraft electrician in the Marine Corps, Bob served in the Korean Conflict. Continuing his interest in electronics which started in high school , building a TV set in shop class and ran a wire from an antenna they put on a mountain top down to the school so they could watch the TV down in the town. Bob and a friend also built a radio station and broadcast a local preacher into the valley. Bob also had an incredible weakness for wood, especially cedar. He carried a magic, creative ability t further craft beauty from wood. His life`s work was a millwright but he was always a carpenter at heart; he built numerous handcrafted cedar chests as well as water features and rocking chairs as heirlooms for his family and friends. Bob Sarubbi is survived by his faithful, loving wife of 45 years, Patricia. His children, Mark Sarubbi of Marshall, Texas, Tina Sarubbi-Breland of Fannet, Texas and Kimberly Melendez of Tyler, Texas; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His wishes were simple. He he wished for more kindness and wisom in the world. He wanted others to strive to be liked as well as loved but also to like and love in return. He wanted people to always be willing to learn. He will be greatly missed while his footprints go on ad on through all who knew him and at this point, I`n certain he would insiston adding "KB5SR clear." Memorial services will be held at St. Phillip`s Episcopal Church in Palestine, Texas on Dec.12, 2009 with Father Ted Welty officiating. |
